If I had a favorite book ever, this could be it (I read too much to have one single favorite book). Well written, engaging, and on the very short list of books I have read more than once. For me, as a very Americanized Latina, it resonated deeply. Her telling of being part to two worlds but not fully belonging to either, was spot on.

I had to read this book for school. It was OK. Not really my genre, and seems kind of frivolous, but it does do a good job of humanizing the cultural integration of immigrants to the USA.
The prequel was better
a fresh approach to understanding 1 person through the eyes of many. A well written, easy read. Have just started In the Time of the Butterflies.

Since this book along with 11 other books of another title was shipped to someone else, I can't review it. Yo is a great book; I ordered it as a gift, and when I realized my order from wouldn't be arriving, the tracking number gave for the book was not recognized by the U.S. Postal Service, and there was no way to contact , I ordered this book and the other 11 (Like Racing in the Rain) from Barnes and Noble--you can call them or contact them by email.
This book was just OK. The narrative was a bit all over the place as it was written by those whose lives were affected by the protagonist. I think it could have been better written, it was a bit too jumpy.
I had to read this book for a literature class. I've never read anything from Julia Alvarez so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. This is a story that's told by different people but it's basically about the main character, Yolanda, or Yo. I enjoyed this book; it was entertaining and kept my interest throughout.
